The second day of Advent

We woke up extremely early today 6:30 am, well the boys did.  They discovered that the Cat in the hat was in the nativity set looking at Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.
Sundays are our busy day.  Today was not a good day for Caristy....we left a little bit late (5 minutes late) so we got to the church at 9:05 am which normally would be fine for getting into the garage but it was a rainy day so everything always seems to not go smoothly.  So I had to wait for one car to get into the church and about 4 cars to get out of the basement.  (I should take pictures of the elevator going down to the basement and the parking areas.)  So by the time all the cars went through and I was able to park it was 9:27 am and church starts at 9:30.  I had to run upstairs to get stuff for the toddler Sunday school class at a couple of times which was okay but just tiring.  By the time I got everything done we were done with the music the kids had gone to toddler Sunday school and John was giving the sermon.  Finally able to sit down and I get Little H who wants to eat.  So it was just a busy morning.  After the church service we had a pot luck and the boys went to Chinese Sunday School.  It was just a very busy, busy day.  But I am so excited for the start of the advent season.  Growing up we would have a Sunday school kid light one of the candles every Sunday so today I enjoyed watching the the first candle being lit - which is usually called the Prophecy Candle because of the prophets who foretold the coming birth of Jesus so long ago.
The second day of Advent the boys looked into the calendar and learned that we would be reading and trying to memorize our Family Verse that will be our verse for the month of December.  I am enjoy these small activities that just get us ready for Jesus birth.  Because Sundays are so busy I tried to plan simple activities that wouldn't take a lot of time and we would still be able to do them even as they become busy.
Our scripture verse from our advent chain is John 1:1 & 2 – In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Enjoy your day.  What are you doing with your family to ready your hearts for Jesus birth?  Are you doing an Elf on the shelf activity with your kids?  Are you doing an Advent calendar?  What are things that you do for your Advent calendar?

  1. Yes, you should take pictures of the church parking garage! I love the Cat in the Hat idea...and the kids' response to Advent, and the pics of them looking at the tree. Thanks for posting!
