A new phase in our life!

Warning.....this post will be a long and wordy post!  I apologize in advance for it!!

8 years ago I got engaged to my best friend.  We were living in Japan separated by many miles as we taught Conversational English.  We communicated mostly through e-mail and had lots of meaningful e-conversations.  So much so that I thought we would continue to talk through e-mail even when we lived together....that didn't happen!!
7 years ago in August we were joined together in holy matrimony and became a family.  In 4 short months our world changed (well mine did) I had returned from Japan, got married, had a honeymoon, moved across country (to a desperately flat area) attempted to find a job substitute teaching, John started seminary, moving into an apartment & then a few months later moving to another place.  It was probably one of the hardest years of my life. I didn't feel like I had a friend -- someone to share my life with (besides John but he didn't always understand my girlie thoughts & emotions). I went to my first seminary wives meeting scared & terrified and left even more horrified and terrified that I had my the worst decision of my life marrying John & him going to seminary.  Thankfully it's all about the way you look at things -- looking back on those 3 years of seminary they were probably some of the best years of our lives.  It helped prepare us for ministry as a couple and we also made some great friends through out our time there.  It was such a blessing.
Before we (John) graduated from Seminary we had done some candidating but it was stressful because either they didn't want us or it just wasn't a good match for us.  At graduation we were on of the only seminary family who graduated without a call. Which was VERY hard and depressing for both of us.  We looked into SIL (Summer Institute of Linguistics) in Grand Forks for the summer as a way to figure out what we were going to do.  Either I was gonna get a job or John would receive a call.  I got a job offer & the interview kept on getting put off.  Finally the day before our anniversary I got a call for a hiring interview down in the Cities.  The day of our anniversary we were out with friends at Coldstone and John got a call from the elders at Zion Lutheran Church.  The very next day I called and pulled out of my interview for the job.  I call that God's timing!
We accepted the call and moved to Cooperstown!  I started the process of trying to get my teacher's license in North Dakota, unfortunately that door was closed because it involved me going back to school.  I worked with Americorps.  It was during that first year that we became a family of 3.  Little N was born August 2007 and changed our lives forever. He has been the light of our lives.  Two years later Little M joined our family making us a family of 4.
We have been in Cooperstown for 4 years we have been a part of some great things -- marriages, baptisms, confirmations, graduations and spending time with some great people. We've also been a part of some not so pleasant things -- funerals (for younger people and for older people also), people moving away.
One of the hardest things is coming to the decision of when you need to leave a place.  We have been called to be the English pastor at one of the Lutheran Brethren churches in Taiwan. Please pray for us as we have made this decision.  Pray that this would be a wise decision and remember to keep us in your prayers.  Pray for our families and for us as this is a hard decision to leave Cooperstown a town where our kids have some very special "grandparents" and a wonderful church (family), leaving to be far away from both our families.  But we are excited for this wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord.

Day 30 – a dream for the future beyond the next year

I would like to grow in my knowledge in photography and that I could become a photographer.....having people want to pay me to take pictures of them and to have people buy my photography would be such a wonderful dream!

Chula Vista

On Sunday after church we took off driving for a VERY long time to Chula Vista to meet up with John's brother Ole & his family.  Sunday we just chilled and went straight to bed....Little N sleeping with John and Little M thankfully in his crib ALL by himself.  It was a rough night that first night because I had TWO loud snorers and Little N rolled so much that he fell off the bed.  We woke up and got ready for the day.  Got to have an AMAZING breakfast with Kim & Ole and their adorable kids!  Then waited for the pool to open up!  We had a great time (well maybe just the adults) I'm not sure if the water park was much fun for G, & M.  I know that Little N liked the water slides (the toddler ones) but was VERY tentative about them.  During the kids naps we divided and conquered.  John & Ole had some fun with the water park while us womenfolk attended the children.  Then they came back and we had some fun in the water park.  We tried out ALMOST all the water slides (minus the ones where you went down the chute with nothing but yourself and it was almost completely vertical! & the one that you had to use a neoprene like towel to lay on.)  it was TONS of fun and I am so thankful that we were able to spend that time with them!!  Thank you guys for spending time with us and for all that you guys did!  We love you!!  My sweet little niece and nephew have gotten SO big.  I love the cute little headband that we just placed on Miss S head for pictures!  Little G has gotten SO big....he pulls himself up and tries so hard to walk.  He is simply adorable!  To see some more pictures of our time click here!  More pictures coming tomorrow!

Our fun day

We got back from the cities!!  John has been taking Little N out and they have been working on making an snow fort.   Hopefully before we leave John will be able to get the roof up and we'll be able to play inside it!  It was really pretty with the snow flakes touching and forming beautiful shapes.  After Little N & Little M woke up from their nap we went over to church and helped decorate the church for Christmas!

Thanksgiving "Weekend"

We were able to drive down to the Cities on Wednesday morning and avoid the horrible winter weather that was forcasted.  We got to spend some quality time with Tante Jewel.  Little N was smitten by her and had to know where she was all the time!  On Thursday we got together with the Rogness clan and had TONS of fun -- we always have lots of fun when we get together.  Lots of laugther, fun and games!

Two matching boys!

Tante Barbara (and possibly Tante) bought the boys matching pjs!  They've enjoyed wearing them and matching!  Tonight we were able to go down to Fargo so that we could continue on to the cities tomorrow (and hopefully avoid the horrible weather!)!!  Thank you so much Tante Barbara and Tante for adorable pjs that my boys are definitely enjoying TONIGHT!! (11 degrees outside)

Day 23 - Youtube Video

Monday, November 22, 2010

Oh the Weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful!!

We had a snowy day!!  It was snowing and NOT so horrible that John bundled up Little N and they started to build their snow fort.....(which someone when the snow is melted will have to remove the support units to it)!  Pictures of Little N in his snowsuit are coming and him playing outside are coming!!  (Gotta get them off John's camera) Today right now the current temperature is -5 degrees out!!  Yup....where did my 30 degree weather go?  Little N is a little upset that he can't go outside and play because it's too cold!!  Brrr......I am VERY thankful that John has chopped wood and has our furnace going so that I don't have to feel so cold!!  Here are my three boys (two playing in the snow) and 1 playing inside with me!!

Things you never want to hear!!

I've been thinking a lot about this and there are so many things that YOU never want someone to tell you or hear spoken in your presence.  I wonder if people just think it will give them piece of mind or if they really think that you want to hear that comment!

Going to school:
- The first year is killer....it almost ruined my marriage....Thank God that we have moved on and I wish you LUCK because that was SO hard.  (This was told me the first time that I met a bunch of women who all had husbands in seminary....it made a nerve-wrecking experience even harder).
- Oh you can be this guy's date because you are "single" and he is single.  (Nope...don't say that!! This was told to me when we had a gathering of couples & singles for a progressive dinner and John couldn't make it because he was having a really hard day from Lymes Disease.....it was a Valentines Progressive Dinner and when someone made that comment I was just itching to get out of there....I was married....yes I was alone but I don't need to date another man....I am more than capable of being alone and spending time with others when we get together!
- Oh you don't know where you are going after school is done?  That must be so rough.....I don't know if I'd be able to handle that!! (Umm.....please don't ever say that to a seminarian family!!  We had that happen where we didn't know where we were going for the whole summer after we had graduated seminary!  It was the most scary and stressful time because we had no idea what we were doing and EVERYONE in our class knew where they were going BEFORE they graduated!  Things to say or do: Give hugs and say that you will be praying for them as the Lord leads in their life!!)

- You've been married for a while....when are you gonna start having kids!! (Ummm don't talk about it! You have NO idea what's going on in my life or anyone elses for that matter!)
- When are you gonna give Little N a little brother (let me get used to being a mommy of one!)
- You need to be doing this -- hold the baby's head, feed him more, feed him less, change the diaper more often or less often, are you sure you want to nurse, your child, shouldn't be walking he's too little, etc. (I've heard this and much more.....I know my child and he has given me different indications that he is able to hold his head by himself, he doesn't want to eat alot, he is a pig, yes I want to nurse.....it can be a pain in the neck but I like knowing that I am connecting with my child in that way....my oldest was and is very short and doesn't weigh alot but he started walking right when he was supposed to!)
- Those parents weren't involved in their child's life otherwise her DEATH would have been prevented!!  (Please don't state that to ANYONE.....you do not know what was going on in that family, the person's life and please please THINK before you speak!!!)

Moving or Traveling:
- WOW do you have your hands full!!  (Yup...I know that I have two kids and I try to keep them quiet....yes they may cry BUT you are being JUST as annoying when you are TALKING loudly into your cell phone when we are waiting for take off and when we are waiting getting off the plane.....why is that you give me the stink eye as soon as I come in with two kids and judge me and then after the flight look at me with respect and admiration for keeping my kids under control.....show the same courtesy then!!)
- Oh you are moving to one of the hardest places in the world to live! (I've had that happen to TWO places that we are going to.....PLEASE PLEASE give advice but don't say negative things about a place when a person is moving and is nervous about the move!  Yes I realize that it's gonna be a hard transition BUT I would rather go in with my attitude that it can be done....yes it will be hard but don't make it out to be what to me will be the worst two years of my life!)
- Oh you won't be able to get around except by bike in the city! (Don't make generalizations about an ENTIRE country just because you visited one or two cities in that country!!)
- You travel ALOT and are gone alot!  (I have been blessed that I have been able to spend time with my family and go visit them.....I think family is very important and I try my best to make sure that I am around to support and spend time with my family!  Yes I might travel or go out to see family but I'm sure that you see your family at least as many times as I do or even more because they live in the same town as you! I am gone some but for the most part I am always around and willing to spend time with others!!

Our life lately

Hi all...sorry for not alot of details of what's going on in our little family's life.  We have been busy!  Last Thursday Little M fell and the tendon between his front teeth & his lip go split....we had our first trip to the clinic for him that wasn't a normal visit wellness visit.  Then last weekend we had John's folks up for the weekend -- we had alot of fun with them.  Little M & Little N showed off marvelously for them and enjoyed having the one on one attention.  Then we went down to Fargo on Monday so that I could get some supplies for Christmas and John had to get the oil changed and the trailer lights fixed plus we did some other stuff.  The rest of the week has been busy with us packing up stuff. We are going room by room and packing up things, getting ready for a garage sale and trying to figure out what to pack, store and to bring with us.  It's been fun but sad all at the same time going through stuff (throwing stuff away) and just packing stuff up.  You never realize how much stuff you have until you have to start packing to move.  This week has also been collection week for Operation Christmas Child.  Our church has been a collection site and it's been fun seeing how many shoe boxes have been packed up to be sent over to children. Little M & Little N each made a box (they had a hard time packing it because they wanted to play with it all but they are excited to give it away.....John & I also made one!   All right back to packing!

Day 20 - A hobby of mine

Let's see....I have lots of hobbies.  Taking pictures, photography, making cards and reading!

Day 15 -- Your Dream House

I would have to say that my dream house has changed over the years.....I wanted a house like the one I grew up in with red brick and beautiful slate roof.  Now I think that my dream house is being surrounded by all our family and having enough room so that we can always welcome visitors and family to be in our house.  It would have a nice backyard so that way we could enjoy the fire pit (that John would want to have) and a nice enclosed room that would be perfect for taking pictures and for just marveling in God's creation.

Day 14 -- Nonfiction Book

Here's one I just read recently.....warning it's a tear-jerker!!

I'll love you forever -- Children's book....read it to Little N & M!  I was bawling my eyes out!!!

Day 12 - Something your OCD about

Hmmm.....this one is hard.  Probably my lack of sharing my drinks with other people....pretty OCD about it.....if someone takes a drink of my drink it's pretty much theirs and I won't touch it.  Otherwise for the most part I'm not really OCD.  Correct me if I'm wrong and just leave a comment! ;-)

Sibling love

I love how Little N & M play.....(for the most part!) They are loud and they just love each other -- minus Little N shoving Little M to the ground.  Little M has started walking more and he is very proud of the fact that he can walk as far as he can without having to hold onto to anything.  In fact he just beams!!  He also likes whatever toys Little N likes (like Thomas the train) which makes for sticky diplomatic meetings to say the list! Here are the boys riding together on Mater......it's like Tomato without the T!! HAHAHA

Day 7 -- A picture that makes me happy

Ohhh.....this is a dangerous question for me!  I have lots of pictures that make me happy!!!

The Pond -- plus Little N & dogs!!
Little M, Little N & John!!  They all make me happy!!

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Day 6 - 20 of my favorite things

1. God
2. John -- I love spending time with him and just seeking his opinion
3. Little N and Little M -- my boys are probably the highlight of my day!
4. My family -- I wish that I lived closer to my family because they mean so much to me!
5. My friends -- I love that I have friends all over the place and I have friends that when we get together it's like no time has passed since we last saw each other and we just visit and joke around like we've never been away from each other!!
6. My camera -- I love my camera because it helps me capture moments that just mean so much to me!
7. Photography -- I have gotten addicted to photography and usually anyone who knows me comes to realize that eventually they are gonna be capture on camera because I notice something beautiful about them or something in nature!
8. Spending time with people -- When we were in Fergus our house was opened for visitors everyday and all the time.  It's the same in Cooperstown but we just don't get the same amount of quality visits that we had in Fergus.  I just love having people over and to be able to sit down and talk or visit or play games just brightens my day!
9. Nature -- I love to see how things change and how things are beautiful and what not!
10. Traveling -- I've bee fortunate enough to visit many places but I wish that I had my camera and could go back and recapture the things that I have been to.
11. Exploring -- same as travel and nature.....so interesting!
12. Driving around talking with John about stuff and looking at God's world
13. Reading -- However I just don't do it as much as I used to!
14. Music -- However I just don't listen or even sing as I used to.....I love listening to great music.
15. Fire pit -- Just to sit around the fire and just visit just makes the day seems so wonderful
16. Making cards -- I am horrible at sending out cards but I like to make them and I will eventually succeed at sending cards out to the special people in our lives.
17. Snuggling in front of a fire with my super soft blanket curled up -- reading a book, or looking at pictures!
18. Hiking -- We haven't been able to do it as much but I love it all the same!
19. Beach -- I love going to the beach -- lakeside, Oceanside, pond side - etc. As long as I can sit and enjoy I am happy!!
20. Naps -- there is something wonderful about taking a nap!!  I can't wait to snuggle up and just relax.  When Little N was a baby we used to snuggle together for naps and I loved it!  I was sad when I got pregnant and my belly made it to uncomfortable for Little N to snuggle with me!  I was able to snuggle with Little M a little bit but he just didn't like to snuggle as much as little N did!!

Day 5 - Your favorite Quote

Huh.....your favorite quote?  I don't have one unless you think that the quote from Princess Bride......I died that day you can die to for all I care..............AS YOU WISH!!! Oh my sweet Wesley what have I done.....off to the fire swamp!!

But it's not really a quote......I would have to say my favorite quote would have to be:

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.
C. S. Lewis

Yes you can go through life without friends but when you have someone who you can share what's going on in your life (the ups and downs) and be a part of  your life - how much more fullfilling and colorful is your day and life (like art)!

Thursday, November 4, 2010

Day 4 - Your Favorite Book

This would have to be the trilogy by France Rivers -  A Mark of the Lion  (1st book - A voice in the wind, 2nd book, An echo in the darkness and the 3rd book - As sure as the dawn)  I have read them over and over again and they are just my favorite books.  I laugh and cry every single time I read them and over the years I've probably read them 20 times.  I try not to read them to often because then I get sick of them but they are some of my favorite books.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Day 3 - Favorite TV program

We don't have TV in our house......well we do but we don't have cable so we watch TV from our wii or when a TV show comes from Netflix to watch.

When I got my parents or even John's parents house.....I go to the HGTV programs, or TLC - the wedding dress shopping, cake making, etc.

Probably one of my all time favorite shows which I have all the episodes to and cried when it was over is Gilmore Girls.  I loved the interaction between the mom and daughter.  The fast talking interplay where you might miss some funny stuff you weren't used to hearing people talk that fast.  The fact that it was based not to far from where I lived (grew up) didn't hurt either.  I was devastated when they cancelled the show because I would watch them and for the first year of my married life that was how I survived being married and out in the Midwest......not that being married and in the Midwest is bad or hard.  It's just I was DESPERATELY homesick!!

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Day 2 - Favorite Movie

I really don't have a favorite movie.  Really honest!  Probably one of my favorite movies is a Knight's Tale....it just makes me happy when I watch it.  But I usually like most movies and don't have an ulitmate favorite go to movie.....but maybe John would have something else to say about that!!!

Monday, November 1, 2010

Day 1 - Favorite Song

This is hard because it comes and goes with what my favorite song is!  Can you really truly have an all time favorite song?  I don't think so.....mostly because you are growing and changing and music is changing and evolving.

I guess my favorite song would be  A page is turned by Bebo Norman.  Such a great song and such great words!  I played this song right before my dad and I walked down the aisle to get married to John.

Bebo Norman is probably one of my all time favorite singers.  I remember going to hear him sing at Valley Church in CT with one of my friends and just falling in love with him and his music (I think it was my freshmen year of college or even younger) he was a new artist trying to build a fan base and he was still single and I just thought he was SO dreamy and he had a heart and passion for God.  This song just touched my life and my heart.  A lot of his songs always touch my heart because they evoke such emotion and strength!

Thirty Days

My sister in law has been doing this thing called thirty days of blogging.  I figure this might actually be a good way to stay current (mostly because I can answer all the questions before hand and then schedule the posts!) But you get to have a glimpse into what make me tick! It's 30 days of blogging. So, for the next 30 days, I will supply you with my thoughts and sharings of the day.
