English Playgroup - Hsinchu Zoo

Last week Little N had a week off from school.  The kids were sick that week and I just felt like I was running around with my head cut off.  So because of that there was a major miscommunication when it came to English Playgroup some of it was because it being the time of Chinese New Year and people having plans that don't always work so you have to be flexible.  So at 9:45 am I got a phone call telling me that people were on their way to my house to play...I had a panic attack.  I wasn't ready (I hadn't finished cleaning the house since the kids go sick, I was folding laundry and the kids were taking a nap!) Thankfully one of the other people that attend English Playgroup was at the Hsinchu Zoo.  It's not the best zoo in the world but we are pretty sure that it has the distinction of being the oldest zoo in Taiwan.  The best part of the zoo is that it is cheap.  So we decided to meet everyone there and have playgroup at the zoo.  The kids loved looking at the animals and playing with their friends.  I enjoyed not having to worry about people going into my germy house and getting whatever it was that my kids had from the previous week. Thankful for spontaneous plans and fun times.

Playing at the park

After picking up Little N from school, I decided to take the kids to the park.  John was gone, he went on a scooter ride.  I figured that the kids needed to get out and what better way then to spend the afternoon playing outside.  Little N was quite upset with me because he just wanted to go home until he realized that it would be fun to play at the playground and not have to worry about taking a nap.  Also it wouldn't be much fun at home without daddy home.

Victory English Fellowship - Sharing our talents

We are very lucky to have a variety of very talented people at Victory English Fellowship to help lead is worship songs.  We are trying to figure ways for more people to be involved in the worship hour.  This past week one of the parents asked John if their daughter would be able to share her talent of playing the piano with the church for God. It was pretty amazing and completely humbled me.  This little girl is the same age as Little N and completely blew me away with how composed she was as she played the piano in front of everyone.  The most amazing thing was that her mom asked her to play on another day and she refused, because she was to scared and just didn't feel like she could do a good job.  But then her mom asked her another day if she would be willing to play the piano for God and surprisingly the daughter said yes. After the  little girl finished playing the piano I am pretty sure that there were tears in most of the eyes because she did a beautiful job and it was all to honor and worship God.  I pray that we all have the desire to worship God with our talents, whatever they may be, like that little girl.

The journey to Big City

We walked to Big City so that we could meet some friends.  We had a blast - having a meal, playing games & playing in the ball pit.  We were thankful that we had friends to get together with in the morning.  Then after we got back from Big City we went over to some other friends to play games. We played Settlers and I will give you three guess as to who won the game and the first two don't count. (Yes...I am a little bitter!)
I love these beautiful flowers....they are so unique and my camera did not do them justice....I will have to try to take pictures of them again and see if I can better capture the colors.  No clue what they are but they sure are pretty.  Also super excited that the cherry blossoms are blooming, so very pretty!

Fun Friday

Today Little N had his best friend (or one of his best friends) from school over to his house.  It was fun watching the two of them play together and for the most part they played nicely together - building trains, playing with legos and other building type supplies.  We are thankful that Little N has at least one little friend his age that speaks English.  We are excited to get to know Little N's friends.
After we took a nap and had some free time, Little N wanted to take some pictures and I wanted to take some goofy pictures of myself.

A lunch out & a afternoon at the park

We met a friend at the Taco house!  We really enjoy the Taco house because you can get Mexican food...well as close to Mexican food as you can get when you are living in Taiwan.  After talking and eating our food we enjoyed playing at the park.  The boys had a blast sliding on the stone slide - pretty certain that the slide is wearing out the boys pants and I'm just waiting for rips in the pants.  Little H as we were walking home from the park fell asleep while getting a shoulder ride...it was pretty funny to watch.
After playing at the park, Little N drew a picture of his dad.  He was so proud of his picture and we are just enjoying the pictures that he is drawing.

Little N & Little H

Little N has a very special relationship with his sister.  He loves her and she loves him. It's been a fun week because Little N has had the week off of school so he has had lots of special time with both his brother and sister.  I adore these pictures.

A glimpse into our world - Bedtime routines

We have been trying to get some routines in place for our kids at night time.  Usually we have to a bedtime snack, teeth brushed and then struggling with trying to get them into their bedroom.  So John has gotten in the habit of reading the kids a bedtime bible story and then praying with them.  I love these moments and think these are the moments as they get older that I never want to forget.
Little N doing some last minute reading before he has to get ready for bed.
The kids have really enjoyed the bible stories and learning how to pray.
Little H has learned how to give hugs and kisses.  I love this picture!

Weather - beautiful blue skies.

Today we finally have had blue skies.  I was so excited because winter time over here is usually really gray and cloudy, so to have blue skies and big puffy clouds was fun to see.

The kids had a fun today - they played wii and played with huge trucks. Little N and John have started playing wii together.  They usually play Super Mario brothers and Little N isn't really good but is getting better every time they play.  Little M loves playing with his sister. I just love his expression!

Shallow Depth of Field

So my goal for this year is to improve in my photography.  I am doing that in many different ways - reading books, articles and being a part of a couple forums.  I would love to take a couple of classes but I don't see that happening this year.  Two things that I will be doing is a themed photo every week for the year and I am doing a monthly photo theme with some ladies from Clickin Mom's.  So I'm hoping to get out of my shell and see more improvement with my photography this year.

This weeks theme was all about a Shallow Depth of Field which is all about taking pictures with a very narrow focus.  I tried taking pictures of the seashells that we painted yesterday at Little N's art show but unfortunately as I was taking the pictures a fuse was blown in the classroom and all my pictures turned out horribly blurry! :-(  So today as I was picking up Little N from school there are these beautiful trees by the parking lot and my goal was to get a blurry (bokeh) background and a blury (bokeh) foreground.  I did succeed but just not as perfectly as I thought it would be. It's a growing and learning experience.

Little N's recycling art show

This week is the last week of the semester for Little N.  This semester the older classes have been learning about recycling - saving water, recycling, using the energy saving lights & electronics & water conservation.  I know that they have learned a bunch of stuff because Little N gets excited when he see certain symbols on plastic bottles, light bulbs & toilets. They have been getting ready with all the recycled art that they made this semester by having an art show - displaying their art work, having zones for the parents, family & friends to do different things and just being proud of everything they did this semester.  Little N's job for the art show was to be the greeter.  When people come into a store the staff have a special phrase that they say -- when I first came to Taiwan I thought they were telling me Hi Good morning then I discover nope - they are just saying a basic welcome to the store.  It was super cute listening to Little N say his little greeting and handing to people their "map".  I was very proud of Little N and his whole class for all the work that they did.  They did a great job.
Pic 1 - Little H with her "fur" coat. Pic 2 - Little N and his other greeter greeting people to the art show Pic 3 - Little N with his art piece ( a turtle) and Pic 4 - The principal of the school cutting the rope to welcome everyone to the art show.
The kids had activities to do - recycled bowling, recycled fishing, painting seashells (the one little boy - Little N's friend wouldn't let us paint stuff by ourselves he had to help us so Little M painted his seashell purple for 5 seconds and then Little N's friend took over as Little M looked on.) The kids made hot air balloons (Little N's is the one wrapped in purple tape and he also made a craft out of old cds.   After that there was a bring your own dish lunch.  Which was basically organized chaos (if you can call it that).....there were A LOT of people.

Little H verse the noodle

We made okonomiyaki (basically a Japanese pancake - savory rather than sweet) the other night and decided to try a different style then we have ever tried....it's the style with yakisoba noodles.  Well Little H was extremely jealous that her daddy was cooking noodles.  John was tired of hearing her squawk so he started giving her some cooked noodles and she absolutely loved it.  He couldn't feed them to her fast enough and when he was done feeding them to her, she just burst into tears because she wanted more.  She is definitely growing older and wanting more "big" people food. Where is my baby going?

English Playgroup - Pizza party

We had playgroup today.  I was going to bring cupcakes to celebrate Little H's first birthday with her little friends but I had problems with my oven.  So instead we made pizza, had spaghetti and fruit.  We let the kids run around and play at my friend's community area.  It was perfect.  So thankful!!
I love the two pictures of Little H and Little M. I love Little H's little toddling walk and Little M's running around .  I adore my kids and blessed that they will run around and play with me.

A shopping trip

We went to Amart today.  Little N hasn't been a fan of going shopping since we did all that shopping when we were in Connecticut so we usually have to bribe him with various things.  Today the bribe was if you go shopping then we will go to McDonald's. After shopping John dropped off the groceries to the car and I let the kids "play" in the arcade (meaning that they could sit on the toys or pretend to play the games).  I love these three pictures of the kids because it just shows how much the boys really like their sister and then how curious Little H is.

We had a birthday cake for Little H.  It's hard trying to figure out who all to invite for her birthday party.  We decided to just buy a birthday cake for Little H at Costco and share the cake with people from our church and then if we had any left over share it with our small group bible study.  It was a perfect Sunday and Little H loved her cake.  Happy Birthday Little H....I can't believe that you are one.

A Glimpse into our world - Checking the water storage container

We haven't been able to go outside for a LONG time.  So when we were invited to go play at the playground in McDonald's we jumped at the chance.  The kids had a blast and the adults enjoyed chatting with one another.  Then after much play the all of us (besides Little H) got ice cream.  Little H was extremely jealous of everyone having ice cream and she wasn't able to have any.  The boys loved their ice cream and gobbled it up. So thankful for the chance to play with friends.
While we were in McDonald's we saw a guy on top of the roof checking his water holder.  He was up REALLY high and didn't have a spotter and it was EXTREMELY windy up there.  I would not have wanted to be up on top of the building on that ladder. It's just one of the things that you see living in Taiwan.

Friday Nights

Friday nights are usually a quiet night where the kids play and we try to talk to Grandma while John is at youth group.  The boys were having fun wrestling this evening and running around playing with in the playroom and their bedroom.  Little H had fun just wandering around trying to keep up with her brothers.
Then at the end of the night when the boys were in bed and all was quiet she walked a little sad because there was only mommy around to cuddle with and follow around.

Little H is 1 year old

Little H turned one today.  I'm not sure how I feel about her turning one.  I still think that she is just my little baby and should still be itty bitty like she was a year ago snuggling in my arms.  I love that she is growing up and being more independent but I sure do miss the little things - the snuggles, the hugs, and the cuddles as we are falling asleep.  I can't believe that she is growing up and I'm just not ready for it.

Little H's birthday party was a quiet party - two of our family friends were invited to join us for pizza and cupcakes.  We had lots of fun talking and playing.  The boys had a blast playing games with Uncle Ethan.  Little H had a blast playing with Aunt Sandy and Aunt Dodi.   It was a fun birthday party.  I wish that both John and my family could have been around to celebrate her first birthday but pictures will have to do.
Not the best picture in the world but this picture is for Little H's great grandma.  Little H wore her Christmas dress that she got from her great grandma for her birthday.  She was such a pretty little girl and stylish.  Thank you great grandma.
Little H had a strawberry cupcakes with fresh whip cream and strawberries.  She enjoyed her first taste of cake and sugar immensely.
Opps....after her cake we forgot to put back on her dress when she opened up her birthday presents.  As you can see she got lots of help from her older brothers opening presents.
After such a busy day she fell fast asleep.  It's rough being one.

Victory English Fellowship - Baptism & Game Night

It's amazing how many people who have been attending church and have finally made the decision to be baptized.  I don't think I will ever get tired of watching people get baptized and then listening to their story of how they made the decision to become a Christian.  It was a pretty awesome day and my boys were very excited because they got to watch one of their Sunday School teachers get baptized.

This afternoon we had a game night at VEF, it was so much fun.  We had a bunch of people to play games and it was just a great time of conversation, laughter and fun.  I can't wait to do it again.

Settler's Game

We went over to a friend's house to play Settlers.  It was a fun day and I only took pictures of the game and beautiful Christmas decorations.  Sadly I did not win the Settlers game but we had fun chatting with friends, the kids played with Hannah and we all just had a blast!  So thankful for friends!

My New Years Goal

I've come to realize that I am not in a lot of pictures.  So my goal for this year is to be in more pictures.  Actually this year I have lots of goals but this post is about my desire to be in more pictures.  So today I got dressed up and felt super cute so I decided to get out my camera and put it on self timer and try to take pictures of myself doing things I like or that I want to do more of this year.
I need to reminder to take time and just look around, see what is going on in the world.  Then I need to also take time and read my bible.  Make sure that my kids see that my faith is important.
Next is to make sure that my kids realize how important they are to me.  To make sure that they realize how much they are loved and how much I care about them.

Little H

So I saw this  beautiful picture on pinterest and thought it was such a lovely picture and wanted to attempt to take something similar with Little H.  Well this morning Little H woke up with a fever and just wanted to be snuggled with and cuddled...no food would satisfy her and she just wanted to sleep on me which just wasn't normal.  Normally she goes in for a cuddle and then when she is done she wants to fall asleep in her own bed. Well she kept falling asleep and I thought oh....this would be a perfect time to try out my picture I wanted to take.  Well it wasn't, lesson learned just cuddle when you have a sick baby.  But here are two of the shots that I took.  I will try again but just not when she sick.
Welcome to our blog! We try to keep this current for family and friends. We moved to Taiwan in February 2011 and are trying to keep in contact with loved ones through this blog. We love comments and will respond back if you have questions or comments!! Thanks for checking us out!!
