Preparing Little N for school

We decided to put Little N in school starting in February.  It wasn't because of Little H but we just felt it would be better for him to start to learn and be comfortable with kids and be able to learn Chinese.  It was a scary thought but we are hopeful that this is the best decision for him.  We are going to put him a Christian "kindergarten" (preschool really) and it's the only christian kindergarten in Hsinchu.  We were told to bring him in a couple days this week for an hour or two to help him get used to the school and to know his teachers.  It's a new beginning but we are hoping that this will be a good thing for Little N.

Good Bye Grandma Dalene

Little H decided that she had to wake up just before Grandma Dalene was leaving.  She wanted to get one last cuddle from her grandma.  Also wanted to make sure we got our good byes in.  Good byes are always hard for me.  It's hard know that I have to start thinking again about the time difference and try and remember everyone's schedule to be able to talk to people.  It was nice having my mom around - we had fun going shopping, talking, looking at stuff to decorate the new apartment, sight seeing, and just seeing how we live. Thank you mom SO much for coming to visit us and dad for letting her be over her for as long as she was.  It was a much needed visit and will hopefully help get me through till we are able to come back to visit everyone in the states.

More of Little H

Today was the last full day of having my mom around.  We woke up, went to church and then just decided to have a stay at home day.  We just played and spent time with Grandma before she had to leave to go back to the states.  We also decided that it would be fun to do a mini-photo shoot of Little H.  Putting her in special blankets and hair bows that people have given her.  A lot of them didn't turn out how I wanted them but there were a couple that I just love.  After taking pictures of just her I wanted some of John and Little H and of course me with Little H.  Looking back with the boys I really don't have that many pictures of me with the boys so I've made the decision to be in more pictures.  Then at night before the kids went to bed for the night we had a special cuddle time with grandma before she left and I made an exception to bedtime....I let them stay up until it was time for all of us to go to bed.  It's really hard being a world away from family I think that's some of the hardest things about being over in Taiwan.  The language is hard, getting used to the culture but for me it's being away from family that is the hardest about being over here.  Making sure that the kids know their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  I am thankful that my mom was able to come over here and spend time with us -- helping us move, helping me recover, spending time with her grandchildren and seeing where we live.  Just makes it easier to explain things when she knows how we live over here.

Meal & visit with friends

We wanted to have Andy & Kris (and their kids) over before my mom left and also to show them the apartment.  E is absolutely thrilled that there is a little baby girl and usually wants to be close to Little H.  It's fun to watch because I'm pretty sure when I was her age I was the same way.  Thanks guys for the visit and fun conversations!

A trip up to Taipei

After moving and cleaning our apartment we decided to take a day trip up to Taipei.  It was the third time that I (Caristy) had been up to Taipei but the first time to go sight seeing and seeing the city.  We went to the Taipei Zoo.  Wow it was one of the last days of Chinese New Year vacation so in the morning it was kind slow but as we were leaving the zoo it was VERY busy.  While we were at the zoo we kind of felt like we were part of the zoo, the little boys got lots of attention and people taking their pictures.
After the zoo we went to the Taiwan handicraft promotion center and then Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center. Wow, the Chaing Kai-shek cultural center is a very gorgeous area to walk around.  We had lots of fun exploring but we were really tired at the end of the day.

Moving Day

Today was a big day!  We moved to our new was probably the quickest and easiest moves we have ever had because we really didn't have much in the terms of stuff.  We had all of our clothes in our suitcases, and then we had friends and people from our congregation just take all of our stuff in their cars to the new place.  It was pretty quick.  I forgot to take pictures of the whole process but I am so thankful to everyone who volunteered their cars, their time and their backs to help us move!

Tomorrow the plan is to clean up the old apartment to get it ready for the new renters.  Hopefully it won't take too long.

A meal with friends

We were invited over to some friends' house for dinner.  Some because they wanted to be nice and invite my mom over for a meal and some because it would be fun to get together over Chinese New Year.  We had LOTS of food to eat and we were going to shoot off fireworks but sadly it started to rain.  Getting to our friends's house was an adventure because we went on an adventure and got a teeny tiny bit lost.  Thankfully we got there and had a great time visiting and chatting with everyone.

We had been packing all day and so it was nice not to worry about what we were going to eat and just a nice break from all of the packing up of stuff.

Our New Apartment

We are in the process of moving.  We weren't looking to move but some friends of ours showed a place that we could rent and we just couldn't resist the apartment.  It's got more living space and just more space for our family.  The apartment is further away from church but still a 10 minute drive to church....just can't walk to church anymore.  We are excited about moving to our new place....I think it will help us not feel like we are living on top of one another anymore.  Here are some before pictures of the place -- it is new construction and we are the first people to live in the place....advantage is that it's brand new and no one has used it. The disadvantage is that we are coming from a fully furnished apartment and going to an unfurnished apartment.  So we have a lot of things that we need to purchase to get our apartment ready.  Thankfully we have a couch, we have a crib, beds for the boys and we bought a bed for ourselves.  We will get things slowly and as we are able to.
It's an open floor plan which I love -- Living Room, Dinning Room and Kitchen.  Then right off the kitchen is  where we will put our washer and dryer. The little nook with the breaker box is what we thought would be perfect for a fridge but there is no electrical outlets there so we decided to put our fridge in our "laundry room".
Bedroom 1 - The smallest bedroom.  We'll use it as a playroom, craft room, extra bedroom.
Guest bathroom & Kids Bathroom
Next to the bathroom is the boys bedroom.
Across from them is Little H's room
Master bedroom - This is a huge space.  We can have our bed, Little H's crib, a couple wardrobes & even like a reading nook in here.

A Drive up to Ikea

We went up to Ikea today....took my mom up to see it and to get some ideas for the apartment.  We found some stuff and got some ideas.  The kids had fun playing and trying to sit on everything.

Chinese New Year

Today was a busy day.  Little H's first day at church, her baptism and then it was Chinese New Year.  This is the first year that we have been around for Chinese New Year.  Let me tell is like a 2 week long celebration with fireworks and it was this week everyone has vacation so Hsinchu is very quiet. Happy Chinese New Year -- It's the year of the Dragon.

Little H - 12 days old

I love having a little girl to dress up.  We had fun taking pictures of her.  She is so adorable!
