Little N's school pictures

Today is N's last day of school for the summer.  Most of his classmates will be moving onto first grade.  In the middle of the school year we were asked if N was going to graduate with his classmates and move onto first grade (if he was Taiwanese he would automatically move up into first grade but because he is a foreigner we have a little leeway).  We weren't sure what we would do with him, so we thought about it and prayed about it and finally made the decision that he would stay in Kindergarten one more year.  He would get an extra year to be in an environment that he knows and feels comfortable with and then he has just an additional year before he starts first grade and we have to navigate through the chinese school and figure out the reading, writing and speaking all in Chinese.
N's graduation picture
N's graduating classmates - please excuse the paint underneath the pictures it has the kid's names underneath the picture and I want to give them privacy.  N's not the only one staying another year at kindergarten there is another little girl who will be staying also.  (Her birthday is in September and she doesn't meet the cut off to go to school - N's birthday is right close to the cut off which is why if he was Taiwanese he would be going to first grade and be put in with 6 to 8 year olds - he would just be turning 6)
All the graduating students from N's kindergarten.
We have been blessed this year with Little N's school - he has caring teachers, great classmates and friends. He has been able to take pottery classes, swimming classes, English classes (his favorite class) and done all sorts of fun activities -- learned about saving the environment and learned about places in Taiwan.  We also got to travel with his classmates for a graduation trip to go to special places around Taiwan.  It's a bittersweet day today and I'm a little emotional.  I can't imagine how I'm going to be once both Little N and M start school this September and when Little N graduates from Kindergarten next year in June, I'm sure that I will have lots of tears.  Tears of joy and sadness that my kids are growing up.
N's class and the teachers at school!
Over here in Taiwan Kindergarten graduation is a HUGE deal.  It's almost a bigger deal then high school or college graduation.  You get pictures taken (as seen in all these pictures) and it's a big celebration.  It was a little surprising that the school offered a train ride trip instead of having a graduation ceremony.  We were so thankful that it was a train ride trip, it was such a great way to celebrate our kids and see some more of Taiwan.
N chose the costumes that he wanted to wear for all these pictures.  He was excited to wear Mickey Mouse hands, and he was excited to be a bad guy (the soldier) and loved being a sailor, like Jake and the pirates.  I love my little guy, he's such a great little kid!

Little N's class graduation train trip

Today was a special day for Little N's classmates and him.  They all got to go on a train ride around some of the Taiwan for their graduation from kindergarten.  Little N is staying one more year at the school so for him it was more of a time to be with everyone he had been in class with for the last 1 1/2 years.
We woke up and took the train to meet everyone.  Little N was so excited and so were all his classmates.  We got to have a whole train all for Little N's classmates, teachers, and families.  Our first stop was to go to Miaoli station and once to we arrived there we walked to a train museum.  It was very interesting and I think it's a place we would like to go back to because we didn't have much time to see everything.
After getting back on the train we stopped at Houli to go to a horse ranch/amusement area.  We had games and activities for the kids to do and we got to rent a motorized bike for all of us to ride.  We had lots of fun while we were there.  We also learned that Little N's principal grew up in Houli and her family still lives there.
Our next stop was to go to Changhua where we got to see a working fan shaped train depot.  The kids and parents were all impressed by how the turntable worked and just watching the trains come into to get serviced.  Surprisingly we were allowed to be around when the trains came in to the yard and went into the depot. The boys were impressed and were excited to see how everything worked.
Our last thing of the day was to enjoy a train ride up the ocean coastline and that's when the kids got their diplomas or certificate of participation.  None of the kids were really tired and they were all VERY hyper from all the candy and food that was handed out throughout the day.  We had a blast!

A beach day

We had a great time with friends at the beach!  It was SO beautiful and fun!
We played in the ocean and in the sand.  The kids really had fun being buried in the sand.
Little M fell fast asleep at the beach.
I love moments in at the beach!  So pretty!!

Saturday Drive around the Northern Tip of Taiwan

We decided to take a day trip up to the Northern Tip of Taiwan.  We just got in the car and started driving.  Lots of beautiful things to see as we were driving around.  We stopped in one area and we found that they had a public bath area (similar to the ones you find in Japan.) but with the kids we didn't want to try it.  So instead we took a walk around and hiked to see the two "candlesticks" in the ocean.  We had fun but there were a lot of people around. We also all got sunburnt because we didn't realize that we were gonna be gone that long and forgot the sunscreen in the car. It was still a beautiful day and so much fun.

A cute little puppy! (Possibly a stray or just an outdoor dog. Not really sure!)

English Playgroup - Hsinchu Expo and Global Mall

I went with a dear friend to the Hsinchu Expo.  We had to pay to get into the Big LED ball area but it was really neat....they had a short presentation inside of the ball which made me feel slightly off balanced but it was a neat video and presentation.  Then we could see the outside of the ball with lanterns floating around.  There is a beautiful view of Jhubei City from the Hsinchu Expo 2nd floor outdoor space.  We had fun.  The kids were able to run around and have fun.  Unfortunately it's super hot out so we couldn't be out for long.

After church we decided to get together with our friends and go to the beach!  It was the perfect day to go to the beach and just have fun.  The adults had a blast and the kids did too.
