Little N's Bug Play

At school this semester or month they have been working on a bug theme.  They have looked at bugs and observed bugs.  They've also been making props and their own costumes and then created their own plays to perform in front of others about bugs.  There were 5 plays and each of them had different bugs.  Little N's was first and he was a lady bug and they had to escape from another bug.  I'm not sure everything and couldn't figure it all out.  The thing I was most impressed was that Little N got up on stage, danced around and performed and then said his part in Chinese.  The thing that most impressed me was that he knew his part in Chinese.  He's been going to this school since February so for 4 months and I know that he has some understand of Chinese and that he is learning Chinese because he is playing more and more with the different sounds and tones that occur in Chinese at home.  However I was impressed that he knew his part. He had his classmates whispering his lines but he kind of brushed them aside and said his lines and then continued to play his part!  He did a great job and I'm so thankful for the school that he's attending and his teachers.  His teachers are very patient and have been wonderful to us.  I wish that he could have the same teachers next year but I guess that will just depend on what happens within the school.  I am so proud of Little N.  I have video just have to figure out how to get off the video camera and then formatted and online!

Date afternoon and a fun photoshoot

Thursdays are John and I's date afternoon.  We have a wonderful sitter who loves our kids and wants to watch our kids.  Our date afternoons usually consist of going out to eat and then going grocery shopping.  Today was slightly different because we were asked to take pictures of our friends.  We had fun chatting and taking pictures.  Then they took some pictures of us!  It was a fun and relaxing afternoon!
John has bible study on Thursday evening so I have the boys with me and they wanted to make silly faces at me!  I love them!

The English Playgroup

We've started a new playgroup and today was the first time that we met as a group.  It was lots of fun times talking and playing together.  It's really funny watching everyone play together.  Little M just really doesn't care if a toy gets taken (unless it's his FAVORITE toy) but for the most part he's pretty good at playing with other kids.
Getting to the location where playgroup was meeting was slightly stressful because I had to drive there and I didn't know exactly where I was going so I got lost and was getting more and more stressed out as people tried to give me directions which never helped out.  Thankfully John when I called was able to give me directions.
 Let's make a silly face!

Beach day and a birthday party!

We went to the beach today and enjoyed ourselves....playing in the sand and the water.  It was a little bit windy and Little H didn't appreciate the wind.  After the beach we walked to McDonald's to go to a birthday part for S and E.  It was a fun birthday party....the kids played in the playground and the grown up were able to talk and visit.  It was a good birthday party.
I love my boys!!  They just love their little sister and are so protective of them!
 Happy Birthday S & E!!

A windy day at the beach

We went to the beach today....the boys had a blast playing in the sand and the water but Little H did not appreciate the extreme wind that was coming off the ocean and then also on top of it was just a windy day.  Today was one of the first days that we saw people actually going swimming in the water (well besides us).  It was fun to watch them body surf.

Monday Adventure - A walk to Big City

There is a new mall that opened up right by our new apartment and we went there by car and pretty much decided that if we can help it we will never drive and try to park there EVER.....it is so busy over in that area that it's just not worth trying to drive in the traffic and then to find a parking spot.  So on Saturday I walked over there with the kids (again not something I will do every again either -- don't go to the mall on a weekend!) But we decided to take a walk over to the Big City (name of the mall) with John.  We wanted to see what was on the 8th floor of the mall and just see what was around.  Walking from our house to the mall is a park which of course we needed to stop by and make sure that it was fun to play on and then once we got to the mall we had to go to the 8th floor and because it was the games area (basically is a bowling alley, batting cages, golf swing practice area, & a adult/kid version of Chuck E. Cheese minus the food.).  So of course we had to play the games.  The kids were interested in watching the people bowling but really enjoyed playing the games -- whack a mole, air hockey (so funny to watch them play) and other games.  It was frustrating for John to watch because the kids wanted to do it their way and not the way the games is supposed to be played -- for example the boys thought it was great when the puck when into the hole so they wouldn't guard the hole and would cheer when it went in the hole.  But we had fun!!

Fun with friends & the outdoors

We had friends over today.  R & R came over with their mom. We haven't seen them since January and it was good to seem them.  R (the boy) is like 6 months older than Little M and R (the girl) is like 6 months older than Little H.  It's funny to watch the boys play together. It's amazing the difference between the girls.  Funny to see the stages that Little H will soon be entering.
After Little N was done with school we decided to go play at a grassy area, just to let the boys run around and play.  We had lots of fun and I think we will have to go there more often because the boys just didn't know what to do with the grass.

A busy Sunday

Happy Mother's Day everyone!
Sundays always feel so busy, rushing to get ready, get to church on time, keeping kids quiet and then getting them to go to Sunday School, mixed in with Little H wanting to eat and getting a cuddle in.  Today was more (but in a fun and exciting way) so because we got to pick up my Uncle who was visiting to see some of the missionaries in Taiwan.  Little N was very excited to see Uncle Matt and proceeded to tell him everything about his life.  Little M was excited but just wasn't able to get the words out to have anyone understand him.  I was also more than a little concerned about getting to church because I needed to get Little M to a bathroom (attempting to potty train -- first full day -- more on that later!).
The Toddler Sunday School class was asked to come up to the front to sing and do the motions for This Little Light of Mine.  They were so cute just sitting there and some trying to do the motions and others not. John did a Children's sermon and Little M just laid underneath his daddy's legs content just to be near him during church which is a rare moment.
At VEF there are SO many young children -- babies, toddlers, elementary age, junior high/high school, who we also need to involve during church.  I've come to the realization, which I realized when we sang Jesus Loves Me during the worship time after Little N's eyes lite and he told me, "Hey I know this song!  Hey church is for me too!" We need to be actively trying to figure out how we can involve our kids in our worship time on Sunday morning (or whenever you meet for worship) because we are raising up the next generation of Christians and if we don't include them now, how will they know that Christianity is for them also?  We can make sure that there is Sunday School programs available but if there isn't something for them during the worship hour how are we drawing them in?
I've heard people complain about adding Children's song or questioning why it would be necessary for children's songs during worship time.  Singing songs whether they are hymns, praise songs or children's praise songs during a church service is all the same you just have the ability to touch different people in different ways.  If you involve people in your worship time you are making Christianity real to them and giving them the tools to share with others.  Right now my son is singing songs both in English and in Mandarin praising God all because they are fun, simple to understand and he is being a witness to his teachers and classmates.
I'm SO sorry for this long (probably) run on sentences and thoughts but it's on my heart and in my mind.
After church we enjoyed a quiet afternoon just catching up with Uncle Matt.  I don't have the best pictures but I'll share what I have! Thanks Uncle Matt for spending time with us!  We loved visiting with you and chatting.

Happy Mother's Day

Today is a very special day, mothers are being honored around the world. I want to honor two very special women - my mother and John's mom. Thank you for being there through thick and thin!  We love you and are so thankful for you!

A drive and a hike in the mountains

We went on a drive up into the mountains.  We haven't done that in a while but it was SO much fun.  Driving around and just seeing the mountain scenery was just what we needed.  Then we stopped for a walk to go see a waterfall.  We were able to take the stroller up to a certain point and it was the second time Little H has been able to be in the stroller.  Little M and Little N took turns sitting on each other's lap when it got to steep for them to walk up the hill (or when they got too tired!) We got to the waterfall and had our picnic as we finished our picnic it started to rain so we hurried back to our stroller before it down poured.  Unfortunately we walked/ran down the hill in a downpour of rain not prepared at all, thankfully a sweet lady shared her umbrella with Caristy and Little H (mostly because of Little H). We were soaked but had a blast just spending time together as a family.
